      Flight Simulators

In order to provide quality training, we currently have 4 flight simulators at ESMA which are used by our student pilots to simulate flights in all conditions. This helps them practice their skills and build confidence that will help them progress with ease in their training.

              International airport environment

With international exchanges increase and travels democratization, the air traffic constantly grow. To follow this trend airports are developing with the aim to turn into main activity centers. Thus, very different jobs offer various aeronautical ground careers opportunities for all educational levels.

This increasing need for workforce in airports is understandable first of all with the air traffic expansion. Indeed, there is a constant need for passengers and freight tansportation. To this, is added new issues emergence for instance in safety or logistics. Finally, these job opportunities are also a consequence of coming retirements of numerous recruitments at the early days or during the main airports expansion.

What should be the profile to work in an airport?

Like the airports atmosphere and be interested in the aeronautical environment (even without being flight crew).

Have a good level in English and depending of each position some other languages may be appreciated.

Accept aeronautic environment jobs constraints: staggered working hours in the daytime and at night, including on Sundays and holidays, have a clean police record and absolutely have your own transport (being able to go at the airport generally situated in suburbs and during hours not very good connected by public transportation) …

Three main sectors at the ESMA

              An airport generates various jobs

In an airport, shops and restaurants proposed various jobs, however three sectors gather number of these « groundhandling jobs », to whom correspond these profiles: sales careers, ramp and turnaround jobs, flight dispatcher careers.

All these professions are interconnected, they work jointly for flights good functionning. It is so possible to change your profession within an airport after a continuous training course for instance. However hiring opportunities vary from one year to the next according to the economic, geopolitical and regulatotory environment and so have an impact on airport jobs. It is necessary to notice that the traffic in this sector can be seasonal as a consequence of peak periods during holidays and thus many more opportunities have merged since the 2000s.

              Training

Training offered by the ESMA, aeronautic school

Aviation includes a large number of jobs, all in connection with airports and airlines functioning. To perform a flight, more than 40 jobs may intervene and play a role to complete this mission. There are thus naturally not only the pilots and the cabin crew – whom everybody can meet in a plane – who participate in the smooth functioning of a flight. Multiple jobs with little public awareness cover the global functioning of flight operations. From aircraft mechanics to dispatch managers, a multitude of jobs exists to offer various employment and career development opportunities.

Do you dream of achieving your career in the world of aviation? Whether you like applied subjects, piloting, or team management, each of our training will give you access to various opportunities, and a wide sector, nowadays globalized.

The ESMA Aviation Academy thus prepares trainees to all aviation careers. It is the only multidisciplinary school in Europe which covers almost all the aeraunotical training, from Airline Pilot to Cabin Crew including Maintenance and Ground Staff.

              .

All the ESMA training programs are open for applicants with a A-Level. The school also integrates a Vocational Training Center for Aircraft Maintenance which delivers a professional A-Level. Students are so directly integrated into a company and can practice their theoretical knowledge from the beginning of the training.

The Aeronautic sector being regulated by European and French institutions such as EASA or DGAC, all the students are trained at ESMA strictly respecting these standards and receive certificates corresponding to these regulations.

The ESMA will so give you access to most of the worlwide job offers thanks to its fame and good reputation in the airlines environment.

Some 1000 students are trained every year in the four main aviation sectors and more than ten nationalities are represented.

The school overall trains individuals for their future profession but also offers corporate custom-made training available on this page.

              Airline Pilot

Airline Pilot or Flight Deck Crew is the only one responsible on board. He is in charge of the airplane functioning, from flight preparation to landing including piloting during the flight. The pilot uses on-board instruments to steer the plane and communicate with ground control centers. He must also be able of piloting a plane in any conditions and of knowing how to manage breakdown situations which could occur during a flight. He is finally responsible for passengers but also for all the crew on board.

              Cabin Crew

Cabin Crew or Flight Attendant are the interlocutors with the passengers in a plane. They are in charge of the cabin, from the on-board security to the customers care and reception during the flight including first aid in case of medical problem. To anticipate emergency situations, flight attendants have to enforce safety instructions with passengers. Cabin Crew have a versatile role and are under the responsibility of a cabin leader and then of the captain.

              Ground Staff

Airports have turned into major activity centers gathering all the jobs required for the smooth running of commercial flights and freight transport. These widely varied professions offer various opportunities for all profiles, from passengers reception to planes management on runway including flights logistic. Some professions such as Ticket Desk Agents and Passenger Service Agents are in direct contact with passengers. Other such as Ramp Agents and Turnaround Coordinator are in touch with crews for flights management. Finally Flight Dispatchers are based at the headquarter and are in charge of establishing roads in advance and of following real time flights.

              Aircraft Maintenance Technician

Aircraft technicians work for maintenance before and after the flight in order to prevent failure or incident.

They are responsible for the aircraft back into service and thus for the safety of flight crews as well as for passengers. They have to respect very precise rules mandated by the aircraft constructor to inspect, dismantle and fix various failed pieces. Technicians also make follow-up visits before and after every flight but also compulsory complete revisions after one numbers of kilometers. According to their maintenance premises they must be multi-skills or connected with very precise tasks. They so have to work in team in a workshop or directly at the airport in touch with crews.

Recurrent training for Air Austral flight dispatchers

As part of the second phase of the refresh courses for Air Austral Operations Control Center team, our Instructor Willy Nowak had the pleasure to ensure from the 13rd to the 24th of June the recurrent training for flight dispatchers.

The recurrent training is a tremendous opportunity to reinforce knowledge on different subjects such as weather hazards, performances, study of feasibility but also to study development progress witch is important for us (AIR-OPS regulations, SESAR projects, EDTO,….)

We want to thank all the Air Austral staff for its welcoming and confidence in ESMA aviation academy

" As during every visit, the eyes are widely opened in front of engines, helicopter and various planes. " said Jean Bravo, Responsible Maintenance training.

The Rafale is the only omni role plane in service in the world.

After a brief reminder on the plane genesis and the national programs and current export, the main characteristics of the plane and its system will be presented to illustrate this omni role character which gathers several concepts applied as well to the cell as the on board sensors. A short reminder on the Rafale competitors will allow to place the plane and the advance on its main challengers. The recent successes in the export will allow to illustrate the stakes for the aircraft and defense industry on the industrial and economic plan.

Lastly, a look towards the future will show that the Rafale will always be at the heart of the combat aviation for at least the next twenty years with doubtless new incomers that are the combat UAV.
