Aircraft Maintenance Technician Training

Aeronautical Technician training begins at ESMA with an Aeronautical Baccalaureate, option cell system mechanic or option avionics system mechanic. You may also start your training in aeronautical BTS for you to acquire the skills of a Senior Maintenance Technician in the aeronautical sector. Other courses available provide more advanced qualifications such as the Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance Personnel Licensing or the Aircraft Maintenance Complementary Mention, which will give you the opportunity to gain more responsibility in your daily work.

BAC Professional Aeronautics training (Avionics Option / Systems Option)

At ESMA, we are a CFA center (Apprenticeship Training Center) for our professional aeronautical BAC training. We offer courses available as both an apprenticeship or in-school. For the apprenticeship path, you must find a company where you will work for 5 weeks alternating with 5 weeks of lessons at ESMA.

The diploma is approved by the Ministry of National Education and the courses follow the benchmarks of the Professional Baccalaureate.

The courses delivered by national education teachers to students are the following:

At ESMA the theoretical courses are supplemented by practical work carried out in workshops. In these workshops, you will practise the use of technical documentation, standard exchange of parts, adjustments and tests, control and troubleshooting.

At the end of your BAC Professional, you have two different career pathway options:

  • Work in an aircraft maintenance workshop
  • Continue your studies in Aircraft Maintenance Complementary Mention (B1.1 or B2), as apprentice only, with the aim to validate the Part 66 License after 3 years of experience.

Bac Pro aeronautics training is carried out over two years, alternating ESMA course phases and company placements.

The Bac Pro Aéronautique en alternance is funded by the Region, OPCOs and businesses.

Additional Information

In addition to the Professional BAC, ESMA also offers the Aeronautical Complementary Mention. This Diploma allows you to acquire theoretical knowledge of the European License PART 66 categories B1.1 and B2 options: Airplane with Turbomachine (B1.1), Avionics (B2) . This Part66 License can be validated after a minimum exercise period of 3 years.

This training is only done as an apprenticeship at ESMA over a year. It includes 24 weeks of theoretical lessons and practical work at ESMA and 28 weeks of work in a company.

Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Personnel Licensing

ESMA provides PART 66 License courses, approved by the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC). This is a required for the issuance of an Aircraft Maintenance License (LMA), validated after 2 years of experience. This license, recognized by all European countries, leads you to obtain the authorization to deliver an aircraft certificate of release to service.
The LMA training at ESMA takes place over 20 months and is approved by the DGAC. You will take theoretical lessons and put them into practice in workshops and on the aircraft available. This allows you to simulate different tests and maintenance operations.

Students follow

  • 1200 hours of theory (modules)
  • 1200 hours of practical work: 780 hours in workshop 147 and 420 hours in real working conditions in one of our partner workshops.

ESMA offers a new course for the Part 66 License:

  • Modules only: This training includes the B1 and B2 license modules. The duration is approximately 10 months excluding holidays.

Aircraft Maintenance HND : Aircraft Maintenance Senior Technician

The BTS Aeronautics offered by ESMA is a diploma recognized and delivered by the Ministry of National Education. Throughout two years, your training will revolve around general lessons, specific aeronautical lessons and training sessions. You will also undertake practical work in our workshops to enhance the learning experience. The BTS teaches all regulatory aspects related to the design / maintenance of devices and will lead you to develop the skill needed to become a Technical Office Agent (engineering).

At the end of your BTS, you have different career opportunities:

  • Access to senior technician positions within companies involved in aircraft maintenance and construction (equipment manufacturers, specialized workshops, aircraft maintenance workshops, etc.)
  • Continue your studies by integrating a Professional Aeronautical License or attending an Engineering school

The BTS training takes place over 2 years and includes practical internships with a company (1 month at the end of the 1st year and 1 month in the middle of the 2nd year). These experiences are the subject of an internship report which will count in the grade of your final BTS exam.
